About Camp Hostel Lifestyle

Camp Hostel Lifestyle is a small independent magazine for people who like their weekends a little muddy and their evenings well fed. We write about getting outside, getting around and enjoying the time in between: the walk to the viewpoint, the night under canvas, the shared kitchen in a busy hostel and the film or game that fills a rainy afternoon.

What you will find here

Our pages are grouped loosely, because a good trip rarely sticks to one category:

  • Guides & Tips – packing lists, gear choices and the practical know-how that saves a trip, such as what to pack for camping.
  • Activities – hands-on outdoor skills and pastimes, from pitching a tent to building a campfire safely.
  • Travel and Destinations – places, routes and ways to stretch a budget, plus notes on reaching Taormina by land or sea.
  • Games and Movies – what to play and watch when the weather turns or the day winds down.
  • Food and World – flavours from near and far, market finds and meals that travel well.

How we approach a topic

We are curious amateurs rather than certified experts, and we say so. Our writers are a handful of keen walkers, campers and travellers who publish under pen names. What we bring is patience: we read widely, compare advice from official park and campground sources, and try to explain things in the order you will actually need them.

We avoid made-up numbers and confident promises. When something depends on local conditions, such as fire rules, trail closures or seasonal access, we tell you to check with the people who manage that place, because they know today’s situation better than any article can.

Who we write for

Mostly for beginners and returners: the person planning a first night in a dorm, the family trying camping for the first time, the friend group pricing up a cheap long weekend. Experienced readers are just as welcome, and they often send the best corrections.

What we are not

We do not sell gear, run tours or take bookings. We are not a travel agency, a guiding service or an emergency resource. If you are outdoors and something goes wrong, contact the local emergency services first.

Say hello

Suggestions, corrections and trail stories all reach us through the contact page. If you want to know how the magazine started, the story is on How This Site Came Together, and the way we choose and check our articles is set out in Writing With Care.

Two kinds of night away

Campsite or hostel?

We write about both because each suits a different kind of trip. Plenty of journeys mix the two.

A night at the campsite

  • Fresh air, birdsong and stars right outside the door
  • You carry and set up your own shelter
  • Cooking on a stove or, where permitted, over a fire
  • Weather plays a bigger part in how the night goes

A night in the hostel

  • A real bed and a roof, whatever the forecast does
  • Shared kitchen and lounge where travellers swap tips
  • Easy to reach by train or bus in town centres
  • Dorm life asks for earplugs and a little patience
